On September 24, 2024, a significant milestone was achieved with the inauguration of Tobacco Cessation Centers (TCCs) across medical colleges in India, under the Tobacco Free Youth Campaign 2.0. The virtual ceremony was presided over by the Union Minister of Health and Family Welfare and took place from 11:00 AM to 12:30 PM.

This initiative is a crucial step towards enhancing public health by providing essential resources and support for individuals seeking to quit tobacco use. The National Medical Commission (NMC) had earlier announced the establishment of TCCs in all medical institutions, emphasizing their critical role in combating tobacco-related diseases.

As per the Global Adult Tobacco Survey 2 (2016-17), 55% of current smokers and 50% of smokeless tobacco users expressed an intent or consideration to quit tobacco.

At JIIU’s IIMS & R Medical College, the Tobacco Cessation Centre was inaugurated at the Outpatient Department (OPD) by our honorable Dean, Dr. Azhar Siddiqui, and CEO, Dr. Ilyas Yakub Bemat. The TCC operates Monday to Friday, from 10:00 AM to 1:00 PM.

We are committed to making the TCC a success and contributing to the vision of a Tobacco-Free India. Together, we can create a healthier, tobacco-free future.
